Slip resistance and durability are important factors for any housing product that goes into a bathroom, around a pool, or even a kitchen. NTA can perform industry accepted tests to ensure your bathing facility product meets, or exceeds, slip, durability and other code compliance requirements as part of a certification program.
Slip resistance testing measures the coefficient of friction (a number that quantifies the ratio between the force needed to move one surface over another, and the difference between the two surfaces).

Another important test NTA can perform is the ASTM C627: Standard Test Method for Evaluating Ceramic Floor Tile Installation Systems Using the Robinson-Type Floor Tester. This test provides important information regarding the durability of tile. Durability is an important factor in society today due to our increased focus on financial value.
NTA is accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) under ISO/IEC 17025 for ASTM C627, ASTM F462 and ASTM F1678. Our accreditation is also recognized by the SCC, which means your bathing facility product certification will not be required to be repeated for use in Canada.
While no surface is ‘slip proof’, NTA can evaluate your bathing facility products according to ASTM F462 and ASTM F1678, which contain the accepted testing methods for evaluating the slip resistance of your bathing facility surfaces.
ASTM F462 provides information to aid in determining the slip resistance of bathtubs and shower structures or combinations, used for bathing or showering. This specification establishes definitions, methods of testing the slip resistance of bathing facilities, and the in-use performance requirements needed to minimize the accidents caused by slipperiness during any reasonable use. This consumer safety specification is intended to describe a means to reduce accidents to persons, especially children and the aged, resulted from the use of bathing facilities.
ASTM F1678 covers the procedures for using a portable articulated strut slip tester (PAST) for determining the slip resistance of footwear sole, heel or related materials against planar walkway surfaces.
NTA performs testing per ASTM C627, also known as the Robinson Wheel Test. This tests the durability and strength of ceramic tile assemblies for residential and commercial construction, pursuant to the Tile Council of North America (TCNA). This test is intended solely for evaluating complete ceramic floor tile installation systems for failure under loads and not for evaluating particular characteristics of ceramic tile, such as abrasion resistance. This test will provide clarification on the type of traffic and wear a certain tile can expect to withstand. It can also help make comparisons between two different installation methods.
