System Built Research Alliance (SBRA)

Formerly known as the Manufactured Housing Research Alliance, the SBRA works to develop and enhance manufactured and modular homes by promoting research. NTA and SBRA have partnered to provide the Green Ready program for HUD and Modular Home. This program allows system built home manufacturers to produce homes that meet the National Green Building Standard as they leave the plant. This program allows the SBRA CertifiedGreen program to be completed later on-site.

CertifiedGreen is a national green building program designed expressly for modular homes. The
program was developed by modular manufacturers and other companies in the modular home building
business with the guidance of and under the direction of the National Modular Housing Council. The
Systems Building Research Alliance (SBRA) is responsible for program administration and national
quality assurance.

Key Features of CertifiedGreen

The requirements for CertifiedGreen homes are based on the ICC 700-2008 National Green
Building Standard™ (NGBS). The NGBS was developed by the International Code Council in
cooperation with the National Association of Home Builders.

CertifiedGreen homes must comply with the requirements of the national ENERGY STAR
program. Energy efficiency is a linchpin of green and ENERGY STAR is the best guarantee of

Only modular home producers and their affiliated builders can participate in CertifiedGreen.
The program was designed to take advantage of the resource efficiencies and quality control
methods inherent in modular building.

CertifiedGreen leverages the quality control practices that already exist in the factory. Modular
producers must be certified to build CertifiedGreen homes. Routine production is monitored by
the plant’s own in-house quality control staff.
